Lip Blush Tattoo Pre-Care

To achieve the best possible results from your lip tattoo and to minimise any risks, it’s essential to follow these pre-care guidelines:

  • Hydrate Your Lips: In the week leading up to your appointment, make sure to keep your lips well-hydrated. Use a moisturising lip balm regularly to prevent dryness or cracking, as healthy, hydrated skin will absorb the pigment more effectively.
  • Exfoliate Gently: A day or two before your appointment, gently exfoliate your lips using a soft toothbrush or a sugar scrub to remove any dead skin cells. This will help to create a smooth surface for the pigment to be applied.
  • Cold Sore Prevention: If you are prone to cold sores, it is highly recommended to take antiviral medication (such as aciclovir) at least 2-3 days before your appointment. Speak to your GP or pharmacist for advice on appropriate medication and dosage. Lip tattooing can trigger a breakout, so taking preventative action will help reduce the risk.
  • Avoid Blood Thinners: For at least 48 hours prior to your appointment, avoid alcohol, caffeine, aspirin, ibuprofen, and any blood-thinning medication (unless prescribed by a doctor). These can increase the likelihood of bleeding during the procedure, which may affect the pigment’s ability to settle.
  • No Lip Fillers: If you’ve had any lip filler injections, ensure that they are done at least 8 weeks prior to your lip tattoo appointment. This will allow your lips to heal and the filler to settle, avoiding any interference with the tattooing process.
  • No Lip Makeup: On the day of your appointment, ensure your lips are completely clean and free from any makeup, lip balm, or other products.
  • Sun Exposure: Avoid excessive sun exposure or tanning beds for at least a week before your appointment. Sunburnt lips can become sensitive and may not heal properly after the tattooing process.
  • Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to your appointment to keep your skin hydrated and promote better healing.
  • Eat Beforehand: Since you won’t be able to eat comfortably for a few hours after the procedure, it’s a good idea to have a light meal before your appointment. This will help keep your energy up and ensure you’re not hungry during the session.
  • Allergy Test: If you have a history of allergies or sensitive skin, it’s recommended to arrange a patch test with your practitioner at least 48 hours before the treatment. This ensures you won’t have an adverse reaction to the pigments or anaesthetics used.
  • Medication: If you are taking any prescribed medication or over-the-counter supplements, it’s important to speak with your doctor or pharmacist before your appointment. They can advise on whether you need to stop or adjust any medications to ensure the procedure is safe and successful.
  • Consult Your Practitioner: If you have any medical conditions, skin sensitivities, or are on any medications, inform your practitioner before the appointment. They may need to make adjustments to the procedure or offer additional guidance.

By following these pre-care guidelines, you’ll help ensure a smooth and successful lip tattoo procedure, resulting in vibrant and long-lasting results.

Lip Blush After-Care

The following information is important; please follow these guidelines carefully to ensure proper healing and optimal results:

  • Diet: Avoid spicy, salty, and hot food and drinks for 5-7 days.
  • Oral Hygiene: No hard tooth brushing.
  • Kissing: Refrain from kissing for 5 days.
  • Alcohol: Avoid alcohol, especially red wine, for 24 hours.
  • Makeup: No lipstick for 1 week.
  • Showers: Avoid hot, steamy showers for 3-5 days and excessive rinsing with hot water on the treated area.
  • Exercise: Refrain from heavy sweating (e.g., gym) during the initial healing phase.
  • Washing: Try not to wash your lips during the early stages of healing.
  • Aftercare Cream: Apply the provided A&D ointment in a thin layer using a cotton bud, keeping the area moist for 5-7 days. Apply the ointment 3 to 4 times a day.
  • Itching: If the treated area feels itchy, do not scratch.
  • Scabs: Do not pick at scabs, as this can cause scarring and pigment loss. Allow the skin to heal naturally.
  • Cold Sores: If you are prone to cold sores, continue using antiviral medication. Consult with your pharmacist for proper guidance.
  • Future Treatments: Avoid facials, fillers, or Botox for 2 months following the treatment.
  • Touch-Up: Schedule a touch-up appointment 6 to 8 weeks post-treatment
